The computing platform I used most frequently during my teenage years (my first computer was a Commodore 64, which was much less interesting).
Emulating
I’ve tried a few emulators and the best is Hatari.
MiSTer
I’ve got one on order, coming soon.
Cool sites
- AtariUpToDate, a still updated software catalogue for the Atari ST.
- Atari Mania, another catalogue of all kinds of software.
- TOS documentation, crazy in-depth resource on Atari TOS.

NVDI
Some kind of driver that replaces the TOS VDI routines with more ‘optimised’ ones, from what I gather. Looks like it was originally intended to help with printing, but that seems to be a side advantage now. Also lets you use TrueType fonts!
- NVDI 5 is the most recent, though it seems it’s generally not recommended for use on standard STs / 1MB of RAM. The installer I have is on two floppies, but if you don’t have floppy disks you can just copy them both together into the same folder and install it (apparently?). The serial number is
296818373.
